Slade: Bitter after defeat

Former Seagulls boss Rusell Slade was a bitter man after Walsall weekend defeat!

They had a few injuries, but still a disappointing opening day defeat for Leyton Orient at the Saddlers who take on the Shrimpers in the Carling Cup first round Tuesday evening at Roots Hall, with what may prove a similar side.

Adam Chambers showed his former employers what they are missing as his 30-yard scorcher gave the Saddlers maximum points.

The midfielder, who was making his debut for Walsall after being released from Orient in the summer, superbly powered in from distance to stick the knife into the visitors, who could not muster a response.

Slade told BBC London 94.9: "I'm bitterly disappointed with the first period, we didn't knock the ball around with any great purpose. Certainly when the pitch is in the situation that it is in here, where the grass is very long and sticky we needed to move it much, much quicker. We attempted to do that in the second half and we created more chances, but unfortunately it wasn't meant to be."

On the Cup tie and his team's injuries Slade told www.leytonorient.com: "Dawson, Mooney and Laird are getting a little bit closer and they have possibilities for Saturday - but they will certainly miss tomorrow (Tuesday)"

Add to that list midfirlder Leon McSweeney who suffered a kneee injury at the Banks Stadium on Saturday,
